கோயம்புத்தூர் மாவட்டத்தின் மேட்டுப்பாளையம், சிறுமுகை வழியாக வரும் பவானி ஆற்றுடன் நீலகிரி மாவட்டத்தில் உற்பத்தியாகும் மோயாறு கலக்கும் இடத்தில் கீழ் பவானி திட்டம் மூலம் அணை கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதனால் உண்டான நீர்தேக்கத்திற்கு பவானி சாகர் நீத்தேக்கம் என்று பெயர். நாடு விடுதலை அடைந்தபிறகு உருவான இத்திட்டம் 1956 ல் நிறைவடைந்தது. இந்த அணை பவானிசாகர் அணை என்றே அழைக்கப்படுகிறது. இவ்வணை ஈரோடு மாவட்டம் சத்தியமங்கலம் வட்டத்தில் உள்ள கொத்தமங்கலம் என்ற கிராமத்திற்கு அருகில் கட்டப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது ஒரு மண்அணையாகும். இதன் உயரம் 105 அடி இதன் கொள்ளளவு 33 கோடி கனஅடியாகும். இதன் நீர்ப்பிடிப்பு பகுதி 1621.5 சதுர மைல் ஆகும். நீர்தேக்கத்தின் பரப்பளவு 30 சதுர மைல்களாகும். அணை உள்ள இடத்தில் உள்ள நகர் அணையின் பெயராலயே பவானிசாகர் என அழைக்கப்படுகிறது, இது பேரூராட்சி ஆகும். இவ்வணையிலிருந்து செல்லும் கீழ் பவானி திட்ட கால்வாய் ஈரோடு மாவட்டத்தை வளப்படுத்துகிறது.
The Bhavanisagar Dam and Reservoir, also called Lower Bhavani Dam, is located on the Bhavani River between Mettupalayam and Sathyamangalam in Erode District, Tamil Nadu, South India. The dam is situated some 16 kilometer west to Satyamangalam and 36 kilometer north-east to Mettuppalayam. and 70km from Erode and 75km from Coimbatore. The Bhavani Sagar Dam was built after India getting its independence. Moreover, the dam is considered to be among the biggest earthen dams in the country. Bhavani Sagar dam is constructed on Bhavani River, which is merely under the union of Moyar River. The dam is used to divert water to the Lower Bhavani Project Canal.There is a park specially made to engage children visitors.
